Les Mills
The refurbishment of an operating, inner city gym with an active membership in excess of 10,000 was never going to be easy. Cape's team rose to the occasion by working closely with les Mills staff, Duo Architects and The Building Intelligence Group, and through meticulous planning. The main gym area was repainted and had several areas of flooring replaced. The work was carried out in stages with a large amount of the work being done after hours, no mean feat considering Les Mills is open 7 days a week and around 15 hours a day! A new fiberglass site sprayed, sound rated RPM room was created, as well as a conical fibrous plaster clad DJ room and a new 'amphitheatre' for the cardio machines. The project was successfully handed over on time for Les Mills to host the Les Mills Global Summit, with over 500 guests, as planned.

The Wharf
This iconic Auckland building was built in the 1970's and has undergone several changes over the years, but more recently has been standing vacant and had fallen into a state of disrepair. Cape undertook a complete makeover of the building, which included replacing all the external timber joinery with new purpose made aluminium joinery (including doors big enough for a car to be craned into the building), replacement of all roofs and extensive replacement of and upgrade to the existing structure due to rotting timber and 'make shift' add-ons carried out over previous renovations. Canted, battened ply cladding was introduced around the lower half of the building, below the aluminium joinery, creating an impression of a ship's prow when viewed from the water. No expense was spared when it came to fitting out the interior as a purpose built function venue, from the timber parquet flooring to bespoke, handmade door hardware, black painted glass toilet partitions, Italian marble tiles to all toilets and a 5m diameter crystal chandelier. The project was completed over 6 months, with many specific and unusual challenges such as extremely high winds and tidal influences. Overall, the Wharf has been a real 'pauper to prince' transformation and a project of which the entire project team can be proud.

Hudson Gavin Martin is a highly detailed fit-out in the newly refurbished Union House. Cape's work included the co-ordination of all base building services installation, as well as the full interior fit-out and joinery package. The fit-out involved a combination of partitioning systems and ceiling details that were a real challenge. The design called for a simple, clean finish and great attention to many details. A highly collaborative approach was required with the design team and the client. The result is a project where the simplicity is a testament to the clever resolution of many details.
